No One Told Me The Deadline Changed

This is a baby blanket I'm making for a friend from work who was due to have a baby boy around February 22.

No one told the little guy to wait. My friend's water broke this morning and I've been waiting all day to hear any news. Around 4:30 pm I called the hospital. All they would say is that she was still in Labor and Delivery. I'll try tomorrow. I figure tonight she's probably tired and busy with family. Even if I pulled an all nighter, I wouldn't make it. I need 2 more skeins of the yarn. The LYS that I purchased the original 6 skeins from was out of this particular shade of blue. Tomorrow I'll trek to a couple more to see if they happen to have any extra. I doubt I'll be able to match the dye lot, but I'm hoping it will match. We'll see.

Wild and Wooly

In the words of Charlie Brown's little sister, "Isn't he the cutest thing!
"
Meet Shaun. My friend got me a copy of the December Simply Knitting, which included the patterns for a Shaun and Friends mobile. I had to make Shaun right away. The specified yarn is not found here in the US, but I did manage to find a suitable substitute at JoAnn's ETC. It is one of the Sensations line. It think it worked up perfectly. Shaun has his own set of knitting needles thanks to one of my kids. One of them (they refuse to confess) snapped one of my Brittany #2s in half. The pieces for Shaun were knit while watching a movie with the family on Saturday night. I sewed him together yesterday.

Also on the needles is a blanket for a friend who is due in 5 weeks. The baby blanket is coming along, but I'm losing interest. I figure I need to do about 6 inches a week if I'm going to make it in time for the baby. The pressure isn't on yet, but it will be if I don't find more motivation. I'll take a picture later of it.

Happy New Year!!!

My Christmas vacation is about over. Tomorrow it is back to work for me. :(

Christmas was fun and relaxing. Santa brought many games for the kids, including a Wii. Seredipity was in Mrs. Claus's favor a few days before Christmas. I wasn't intending on getting one for the kids until the spring, but while at Target on 12/20 during my lunch hour, a cart load of them was wheeled by and I got one. It has been a huge hit. We've now acquired a few games and an extra remote and numchuck. It will help keep the kids active over the winter.

After spending 4 days in Cincinnati with family, the kids and I returned home last Friday. I started a new pair of socks for myself.

The are a standard 2x2 rib, eye of the peacock heel made out of Tofutsies #728. The skein claims to be 425 meters, which I figured was more than enough for a pair of socks for me. I'm almost ready to start the toe decreases, and it feels like I've used barely any yarn yet. I may be able to get two pairs out of this skein. I'll have to weight the finished socks to be sure. If that is the case, I'm going to try to find more Tofutsies to try. I love how the darker pink has created a swirl around the leg and foot. I was concerned that the heel flap and gusset would interrupt it too much to have it continue on the foot, but it started up again once I got back to the right number of stitches. Life's good.

Winter is hitting full force tonight. We are getting lake effect snow which is supposed to last all night. The wind has been blowing since last night. I wish I could stay bundled up in bed tomorrow morning, but that's not my luck. At least I'll only have 3 days to work this week.
